Welcome to Buckie
The Victorian town of Buckie is at shore level and is straggled over 3 miles of coast covering Buckpool in the West, Drybridge in the South, Rathven in the South East, to Portessie in the East. Home to a variety of unique shops, the town has a swimming pool, play parks, 2 local golf courses, a seaside caravan park at Strathlene, a working harbour with Fish Market, the Inchgower Distillery and the Buckie Thistle Football ground. Tennis Courts are available at the Ian Johnston Park where an outdoor paddling pool is offered in the summer months but if hillwalking is desired, a trip up the "Bin Hill" or Hill of Maud is not to be missed.
The Buckie Drifter gives a distinct review of the traditional fishing culture of the town in the museum and allows visitors to go inside an RNLI Life Boat. Buckie Library houses the Peter Anson Gallery of marine watercolour paintings. For other sights, an excellent view is watching the sun set from Strathlene, over the Moray Firth. Dolphins are often seen from Portgordon while Ospreys can be found nearer Spey Bay. The Blue-Nosed Dolphins in the Moray Firth have caused so much research that a dedicated Dolphin Centre has been established at the old Tugnet Ice House, at Spey Bay, to the West of Buckie. Please enjoy your browse of these webpages about Buckie and feel free to e-mail Colleen, the webmaster about its content. |
